根据美国国家安全委员会的调查结果,每四个美国人中就有一个直接受到阿片类药物的影响,但40%的人仍然认为这不会对他们的家庭构成威胁。
为了终止这种持续的冷漠,国家安全委员会于2017年11月发布了死亡纪念馆。该纪念馆包括22000颗药片的墙壁,每颗刻有在2015年因摄入致命剂量而丧命的人物图像,并在华盛顿特区展出。
Ellipse在4月12日至18日举办了纪念活动。NSC总裁兼首席执行官Deborah Hersman4月11日向媒体和访客发表讲话。
她说:“阿片类药物已经在全国范围内造成了大量死亡。这不是联邦或州的问题,也不是共和党或民主党的问题。这是一场不分种族,年龄和性别的人类危机,它需要两党合作解决方案和国家领导。”
纪念馆为 Donald Trump 去年秋天宣布的公共卫生紧急事件提供了个人信息。

除了22000个药片墙之外,纪念馆还帮助访问者安全处置未使用的药片,并与处方者就替代阿片类药物的问题进行讨论。
